The AquaScan fish counter is based on a patented measuring principle developed by Torbjørn Kvassheim in 1989 as part of his thesis work at the Regional University in Stavanger, Norway. This measuring principle represents a new method of counting in which the distance between any number of objects passing the sensor is no longer relevant.

Based on production and sale of the original smolt counter, the company was established in 1990. The markets need for realiable and fast counting of any size of fish and more excotic species was realised during the early 1990s. Resulting from this, in 1996 we developed the CS-series which was specifically designed for counting fish being transported in pipes.

In the beginning of 2000 the CS-series was replaced by the CSE-series. The CSE are even more rough and tight and the units are easily installed, with connection to either a flange or collar/pipe. These units are built up in modules, and if necessary the small water-tight electronic box inside the chassis may easily be released for service or replacement.

The CSE-series allows the fish unrestricted passage through the counter and keeps the requirement for changing the excisting customer arrangement to suit the counter at a minimum. CSE-counters are used with pipe 0-1/4 full of water through the Registration Unit. The user can easily himself connect the counter into excisting pipes/graders/arrangement. AquaScan CSE-series are the right choice for most fishcounting applications.

In 2001 we brought the CSF-series to the market. These counters does not replace the CSE-series, but supplement them, as they are made for different applications. The CSF-counters are made for applications where the pipe through the counter is completely filled with water.
These units are typically used together with continuous steady flow pumps, siphon or over/underpressure.
